The Judeo-Christian Scriptures provide clear guidance in how we treat the most vulnerable in our society. I am humiliated and mortified before my God; I fall short. Yet, I have done my best to follow these.
Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism have wise words as well. So do other faiths

“Speak out on behalf of the voiceless,
and for the rights of all who are vulnerable.
Speak out in order to judge with righteousness
and to defend the needy and the poor.”
-Proverbs 31:8-9 Common English Bible
“When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
observe carefully what is before you,
and put a knife to your throat if you have a big appetite.
Do not desire the ruler’s delicacies,
for they are deceptive food.”
-Proverbs 23: 1-3 New Revised Standard Version
“He has told you O mortal what is good:
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?”
-Micah 6:8 New Revised Standard Version
“Ah, you who make iniquitous decrees,
who write oppressive statutes,
to turn aside the needy from justice
and to rob the poor of my people of their right,
that widows may be your spoil,
and that you may make the orphans your prey!
What will you do on the day of punishment,
in the calamity that will come from far away?
To whom will you flee for help,
and where will you leave your wealth,
so as not to crouch among the prisoners
or fall among the slain?
For all this his anger has not turned away;
his hand is stretched out still.”
-Isaiah 10: 1-4
“Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue
so that you may live and occupy the land
that the Lord your God is giving you.”
“If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat;
And if they are thirsty, give them water to drink,
For you will heap coals of fire on their heads,
And the Lord will reward you. “
-Proverbs 25: 21-22
“Then they will answer, Lord when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
-Matthew 25: 44-46
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.”
John 13: 34
As Donald Trump becomes our President, and to the extent that injustice is done, we must oppose that and stand for the poor, the oppressed, the orphan and the widow. And we must speak out for the vulnerable in our society; especially those singled out for hate or injustice.
