They won’t be arrested or charged with anything by the criminal justice system, yet they ought to be. The Far-Right’s repeated and limitless rhetorical warfare against the very idea of a nation of laws, and the value of democratic government, are directly responsible for what has since 2009 been armed revolution– treason, against the Government of the United States of America. This carries with it a threat to public safety that makes families and children especially vulnerable.
Struggles for Justice hereby issues a moral indictment of conscience against:
Fox News Rush Limbaugh Glenn Beck National Rifle Association (NRA)
The Republican Party of the United States (Tea Party) Alex Jones Ted Nugent
Sharon Angle Oath Keepers Right- Wing Talk Radio Patriot Militias
And most of all against the Sovereign Citizen Movement of U.S. Domestic Terrorists
When Ronald Reagan spoke the words “government IS the problem” back in 1981, he unwittingly launched a conservative movement so mean-spirited, with such anger, fear, racial bigotry, and xenophobia as to threaten the security of private property, and even the very lives of the people of the United States. These threats have been to date focused most of all on the law enforcement officers, judges, public servants, and representatives who serve us, that make orderly government, domestic peace, and loving community possible.
Presently, democracy itself is under dire threat in this country. The incitements to disrespect, deliberately misinterpret, and openly engage in violence against American democracy, whatever we may think of party politics, emanates from those who tell us to be afraid, to hate, to use violence instead of love, and to urge the use of guns against those with whom we disagree.
This culture of gun violence, crazed and irrational hatred against the innocent, law abiding, and the peace officers who protect them, tears at the very fabric of what we commonly refer to as civilization.
The National Rifle Association has become an inciter of domestic terrorism as has all of the extreme right, which increasingly looks like mainstream conservatism now. There used to be a wide and sharp distinction between the two–no longer.
The harsh words for these people and their terror organizations under a veil of an amorphous anarchism is evil, wicked, and in those of faith the product of the prodding of the Devil. To try to excuse, or dismiss, merely lets them get stronger and emboldens them to threaten the safety of our children, and our children’s children.
The United States is not Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, nor Libya. Yet it is on a trajectory to outclass them all. Those of us who were born in the mid-twentieth century know how different the nation is now in these respects than in our youth.
Ronald Reagan is increasingly seen by the right as not having gone far enough, and Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of the greatest modern Republican presidents, has even been called a “communist” in ironic contrast to his defense of the Republic in the Cold War.
What can we do? What MUST we do?
First, launch a campaign to have broadcast stations, media enterprises or networks who give comfort to those morally indicted here to have the FCC revoke their licenses to operate in the United States and its Territories.
Second, to one-by- one destroy the support of the commercial sponsor base in the marketplace for these haters and traitors. And to offer our support to sponsors themselves, who choose to take their advertising dollars elsewhere.
Third, to demonstrate in mass across the nation, non-violently, peacefully, in love and compassion for the fallen, and with utmost respect for the rule of law, and support for our democracy firmly set against these evils.
Fourth, we must encourage our religious leaders to remind all of the teachings of Jesus the Christ, and the demands of the religious texts of all the great religions that carry with them moral proscriptions for right behavior, and an active moral conscience.
Fifth, we must no longer accept such gun violence as normal to civil society. We must vastly strengthen gun laws, and treatment for the violently mentally disturbed in the United States. We must align ourselves with the world’s democracies, where gun violence is relatively rare.
The health and vitality of gun sales, and “Second-Amendment Remedies” must give way to public safety. Damn you who behave to the contrary. Your rank moral depravity, ultimately finds you guilty as charged.
