In These Litigious Times by Joanne Cunningham

Never Too Safe
A pink chalk heart
On the sidewalk in the park
And written within
K + J
A timeless message of love.
Underneath it, however,
In letters just as large
Is a disclaimer:
(kinda)
Did Jenna, perhaps, have second thoughts about Kevin
After she took the time to proclaim her love
Or was Katie suddenly struck by the reality
That maybe Jimmy wasn’t quite as ready to commit to such a public display
Of affection?
In these litigious times
When Objects in Mirror may be Closer than they Appear
And Actual Results May Vary
Are we simply being cautioned
Lest we place too much stock in a pink chalk heart
Before we know for certain
Just how serious a declaration of commitment it represents?

  1. Nice work. In life objects are always closer than they appear. We get smacked a lot. Maybe that is why we remain so uncommited.
